Kitiana was the daughter of King Trestenoir, ruler of a far distant
land. She was the only member of his family still living. His wife and only son
had been taken from him in a avalanche in the pass of the Minx three seasons
past. She was he only joy left in his life. In her he saw the beauty of his
queen and the strength of his son. Many a day he would gaze
upon her from the balcony of his chambers down to down to the fields of flowers
behind the palace as she joyfully learned the ways of falconry. It always amazed
him of the affinity that she had with those great birds. More than once her hawk
(Entrisia) would twist away from her and speed its way to the balcony where her
father watched. Entrisia would light upon the railing and look deeply into the
eyes of the king questing for answers. He swore that Kitiana shared those eyes
and thoughts of the hawk. Entrisia had in the past chased away unwelcome
suitors of the princess . Always before any even knew they were near. Anyone but
Kititana and her hawk it seems.
Kitiana would sneak away from the palace and surrounding city. She would set Entrisia a flight before she left then try to hide away from the bird. Much to her glee this game never went without Entrisia calling her victory from the sky above. then landing to level a mocking glare upon her Princess. It was on one of these excursions that Kititana was made aware that she had more of a relationship with Entrisia than that of just hawk and master. On this day time had fled away from Kitiana without her notice. The sun was starting its downward journey and she had had gone further from the kingdom than ever before. Kitiana started to get very nervous, and those emotions were reflecting in Entrisia. The hawk called out sharply once then took flight to the sky, circling high over head. Back at the castle Trestenoir was unaware that his daughter was again away from the city. In the past he always knew of when she had left. Agents in the city would report of her departure and the King would have one of his wizards find and watch over her. She would be scolded when she returned but that was all. Her father could not stay mad at her for he loved Kititana so and knew her soul to be one of natures freedom. To be held in the palace was the same as being caged to the Princess. So the game continued, her fleeing the city and the King having her watched for her own safety King Trestenoir was in conference with the Duke of Mardessa that day. (A very dangerous man) King and Duke held no loss of love for one another. Most all of Trestenoir's spies warned him to never turn his back to the Duke. It was no secret that Mardessa wanted the throne for his own. Ever since the death of Princ Prince (The only heir to the throne) Mardessa had become more of a threat as each day passed. Always The Duke managed to stay clean of any wrong doings, but it was only a matter of time before proof was brought forth. Raids continued to increase along the borders of Mardessa. The pillaging and murders of the Kings subjects was the reason for this meeting. The Duke was being informed that although there was yet to be enough evidence to prove that he was indeed behind the hostilities, it was only a matter of time before it was brought forth. When it was that there would be a major military invasion upon the Dukes holdings ending only when Mardessa was removed from his position of power as well as that of all his staff. If it came to that he would be brought to justice then taken to the gallows. Needless to say Mardessa was outraged to the point of having to be restrained once. It was during this that one of the palace guards entered to speak with his majesty. Trestenoir held a hand up halting the guard until he had finished making a point to the Duke. Once that point had been made Mardessa exploded again to the degree that two of his own dignitaries had to restrain him once again. Trestenoir's own anger was building when the guard interrupted. "My liege...." said the guard. "NOT NOW!!" Bellowed the king cutting him off. "But my liege!" stammered the guard who was not used to seeing Trestenoirs angered this way. "NO!!!" yelled Trestenoir slamming his fist upon the table. The guard dropped to one knee bowing his head he blurted out. "Its the Princess Kititana!" Mardessa had calmed and watched as a wolf would watch a fawn. "What of her?" He asked his face betraying the worry in his heart, to the wolf stalking its prey. "She has fled the city again my King..." The guard said while raising his eyes from the floor. "Well inform Gaebriel that his services are needed to watch over her again, and rise from your knees man!" Replied the King. "Tis to late for that M'lord. We know not when she left. She evaded detection. Gaebriel seeks her out as we speak." The guard said while rising from the floor. Trestenoirs face drained of all color. Before he could speak the head of captain of the royal guard stepped from the shadows to whisper into the ear of the King. Trestenoir looked to see Mardessa eyeing him evilly. The King nodded to the captain who in turn motioned to the other guards in the room. "Gentlemen this meeting is at an end." His voice boomed as the rest of the royal guard stepped from shadows and moved to escort the Duke out. Suddenly Kitiana didn't feel very good, she started to get dizzy and fell to the ground. Entrisia Screeched in the air and started to tumble just a bit then righted her flight. Images of the ground started to fill Kitianas thoughts. |
