For more than 1000 years ago, the time we call the Viking era, they had in the North never heard of Jesus or God or heard the stories from the Bible. The people here had their own belief and their own Gods.

Today almost no-one that believes in Odin, Thor, Frigg, Loki or anyone else the other Gods or Godesses in the ancient Norse religion. But still we see the Gods and Giants names daily. Many towns and streets have got their names from the Gods, in Denmark, the town of Odense have been named after the God Odin, In Sweden there are names like Torshälla and Torslanda which have got their names from the God of thunder, Thor.

Our days have also got their names from the Gods, Tisdag (Tuesday) is from the God Tyr, Onsdag (Wednesday) is from Odin, Torsdag (Thursday) is from Thor and Fredag (Friday) is from Frigg.

The Vikings wanted to be friends with the Gods, to show them how much they liked them they sacrified animals and even humans, the blood they stroke on the trees and on pictures of Gods, that is called "Blota". In the evenings it happend that they sat around the fire and told stories about the Gods. An Icelandic man who lived for 750 years ago was named "Snorre Sturlusson" and he wrote a book called "Edda", that means "Old grandmother". The stories are many and often advanterous.
