When I first started out, I bought a lot of herbs
cause they sounded very magickal, but . . I soon discovered that I never used a few of them, and was diving into my kitchen spice cupboard just as often. So after a while I sat down, went through everything I had and tossed everything that I never really used, and what I ended up with was about 25 herbs, gums spices, and woods. But as always I once again found my herbe collection growing, but only then bought what I actually needed. I now have a wonderful collection of over 70 Gums, Herbes, Spices, Barks, Flowers that I also use for meducinal reasons as well as magickal. |

| The following recipes are some of the recipes I now also use, as you can see they are quite different from the recipes on the previous page. Neither is right and neither is wrong, choose which you feel more comfortable with.(note): the recipes on the previous page are not suitable for turning into cones. | |||

The above recipes are all good for loose incense
and some are Ok to make into cones. A golden Rule to remember when making Cones is to always have at least twice as much wood as there is Gums. And Gums should never make up more than a third of the entire incense. The recipe to follow is a great base to which you can add a lot of these above recipes to, to create Cones |

Try to match the wood base of this incense to the one you used in the base recipe. Again try to match the oils to one used as well. Start by mixing the first three ingredients together until they are well blended. Add the essential Oils and mix again using your hands. Now finally add the base incense you have already made and again mix with your hands. Now you need to weigh the final incense on a small kitchen scale and add 10% of potassium nitrate (salt peter). Mix well until the white powder is thoroughly blended. (For saltpeter try your local pharmacy, or chemical supply shop). If no luck Esoteric Bookshop have a mail order service. Saltpeter should not be greater than 10% as it will then burn too fast. Any less and it may not burn at all. Next add Tragacanth glue. (see recipe below) Do this a teaspoon at a time, mixing with your hands in a large bowl. Keep mixing until all ingredients are wetted. For cone incense you will need a stiff, dough like texture. If it is too thick it won't form properly and will take ages to dry. The mixture should mold easily and hold its shape. On a waxed bit of paper, shape the mixture into a cone shape. If this form is not used they may not burn properly. Now let it dry for up to seven days in a warm place. Your cone incense is now finished. . .Enjoy. |

Tragacanth Glue Tragacanth glue is the basic ingredient of all molded incenses, and is available at herbal stores. To make the glue, place a teaspoon of the herbe in a glass of warn water. Mix thoroughly until all the particles have disappeared. To help this along, place in a bowl and beat with an egg beater. This will cause foam to arise, but it can easily be skimmed off, or just allow it to disperse. tragacanth has great absorption qualities, an ounce of this herbe will soak up a gallon of water in a week. Let the tragacanth soak up the water until it becomes a thick bitter-smelling paste. When it is ready, cover with a wet cloth and set aside. It will continue to thicken as it sits, so if it gets too thick before you are ready, add a little water and stir thoroughly. If you can't find Tragacanth Glue, try using Gum Arabic in its place. This will also absorb water. |
